Haywood County Arts Council to Present Second Small Works Show

The Haywood County Arts Council’s Gallery 86 is pleased to announce this year’s small works show entitled, ”It’s a Small, Small Work 2009” beginning Wednesday, November 18, 2009 through Saturday, January 2, 2010. An opening reception will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2009 from noon to 5pm in conjunction with Downtown Waynesville’s Holiday Open House, the holiday tradition on Main Street where you can enjoy the sights, scents and sounds of the season.
Just in time for holiday gift giving, It’s a Small, Small Work 2009 represents a unique opportunity for shoppers to purchase original art at very modest prices. Most artwork is priced between $20 and $100. No pieces are priced over $300. Artwork will be sold off the wall in a “pay and walk away” style.

Each of the 90 participating artists hails from the 25 westernmost counties in North Carolina. A variety of mediums will be represented including: painting, printmaking, drawing, ceramics, mixed media, collage, fiber, sculpture, enamel, glass, woodworking, metal, and photography. The show challenges artists to create works that are smaller than 12 inches in every dimension, including base, matting, and frame. Participating artists include emerging artists, mid-career artists and established artists who have been producing artwork for many years.
For more information about It’s a Small, Small Work visit the Haywood County Arts Council website at www.haywoodarts.org. This project received support from the North Carolina Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Cultural Resources, and the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.

On Personal Power

"The only way to expand our personal power

is to embrace ourselves
exactly as we are
neither more nor less
but as someone in a state of
constantly changing grace."
